If you have read my other articles on Max Steel, you would have known some background information on this cartoon. If you have not read those articles, let me just give you a brief overview. This animation series premiered in about 2000 and ended in 2002. There were about 3 series of cartoons released in all and almost every year a movie on Max Steel was released. However with the exception of one of these movies which was released as a DVD together with a max figure, the rest of the movies were shown in Latin America. That may change now that there would be an international movie on Max Steel released next year, similar to what has been done to the Transformers and G.I. Joe line of toys.
When the cartoon was first released, as usual there were many action figure toys that came along with it. There were also new waves of action figures released about twice a year. These action figures are very similar to the original 12-inch G.I. Joe toys. The Max Steel figure toys are also twelve inch in height and they come in entirely different versions. These figures include those of Max Steel, who is the main character of the cartoon series of course, and also one or two of his enemies such as Psycho and Mr Dread, as well as a couple of vehicles and 2 or 3 special packages such as accessory packs for the action figure. Usually these new toys would be shown in the cartoon series to tie in with its release. This would allow more people including the kids watching the cartoons to know about the action figures and maybe arouse more interest to purchase them.
Interestingly, all the earlier Max action figures were quite different from the one shown in the TV series. These toys had military, adventure or sport clothes not related to the series in any way. It is worthy to note though that Josh McGrath, the teenager who became Max Steel, is actually a fictional extreme sports teen star who later joined his step fathers company which was also had to do with extreme sports as it was a extreme sports articles manufacturing company (but actually a front for some high tech counter intelligence research lab). This may be the reason some of the Max figures were wearing adventure and sports clothes instead of some high tech military fighting equipment.
